Twitter client for real-time updates?

I notice more and more TV shows are starting to display hashtags at the beginning for people wishing to discuss on Twitter. e.g. #dealornodeal #bbcqt

I normally use the twitter website for all things twitter but it does not seem to have a very good real-time display for showing live #hashtag discussions. It seems very hit and miss with some posts showing from days ago and missing new posts entirely.

Is there dedicated software out there that would do such a thing? Sort of like Windows Messenger but for Twitter chat.
