Being as the 9xxx series from NV seems likes it's going to be nothing exciting, i might be getting two 3870X2's in Xfire, being as i have a 2560x1600 monitor (although my single 8800GTX copes surprisingly well).

Will i have any trouble doing this with a P35 based board?

You won't have any trouble, it would just run better on an x3/48 board.

16x + 4x vs 16x + 16x

Check out the reviews though, there seem to be a large number of problems with cfx as of now.

You also might want to look into getting a qx9650/q9x00 and clocking it to hell along with your new mainboard too as cfx needs every last mhz from the cpu to run even half decently. (extreme cpu limitations)

According to the official Crossfire X compatibility chart you'd be fine doing it on a motherboard with the P35 chipset, but you might have a 15% performance penalty for one being in a 4x PCI-E slot.

I've already got a Q6600 @ 3.6GHz, that would easily be high enough... besides when gaming at 2560x1600 i'm wayyyy more GPU limited than CPU limited.

Forgot with the P35 the second PCI-E is x4 speed  oh well, still think i'll get two.

Cheers guys!

No, 3.6 isn't enough at any res, these words are taken straight from the mouth of top bencher Hipro5.

4x slot will KILL an X2... remember you are spliting that bandwidth between 2 GPU's so you would be effectivly running each GPU on 2x PCI-E...

Best you can do on a P35 is X2 + XT for Trifire.

/\/\/\/\/\/\ what he said, that appears to be the sweet spot for XfireX atm, otherwise the performance gains don't justify the cost outlay.
