Two 960's or a 970?

Just upgraded from a single 460 to a single 970, one of the best decisions I've made in years.

The worst decision I ever made was buying a 460.

That card defied logic, and cost me many hours of fault finding and a couple of trips to the post office. When I finally switched back to AMD (HD7950, which has been good) I decided to sell the 460, but it failed to work in the PC belonging to the prospective purchaser.

It's put me off Nvidia.

Hear a lot of people saying this but the results dont paint that picture at all.

960 SLI easily beating a 980 at 1600P

960SLI beats a single 980 by two FPS in that test (@1600p). That is within a margin of error. Where is the "easily beating" coming from?!

Meanwhile two 280x make light work of either setup.

Based on those results a single overclocked 970 would match the 980, and prove more consistant performance than the 960SLI setup with the added benefit of more Vram (whether it is a problem or not now is irrelevant when looking at the future).
