Mass Effect 2 (PC) - Can both my wife and I play seperately?

If we both create a character, and at start up select our own save game, can we both play the game independently? Does it work like that? Or will one get overwritten?

(I bought the game for her, but after installing and patching I started it up to see what it looked like, and 3hrs later I'm hooked! She's going top be cross if she can't play it now [and I've done too much to lose my own savegame!!]!)

Thanks

I think it will get overwritten, why don't you copy your save game folder and store it until she's had her playthrough, then just copy your save folder back in.

Mass Effect 1 definitely kept seperate saves for different characters, you'd have to change character profile and then pick a save for that character. I think Mass Effect 2 is the same.

Just checked and it's the same. You pick a career (character) when you open the game and go to load a save, then any saves you make will go to that character.

'Careers' are independant. Each has its own Chapter, Auto and Quick Save slot along with hard saves.

Its the type of save system Bethesda would do well to adopt instead of insisting on that pathetic excuse for a save system they use.

Only thing to remember is that 'Resume' automatically selects the save game with the latest date/time stamp. Doesn't matter really but it can do if you're altering the date for the Shadow Brokers terminal rewards.

So just to clarify, we can both play the game?

When we start up the game, we select our created charecter and all saves will go against that (including autosaves, or do I need to disable that?)?

Thanks very much.

EDIT - I just reread the replies, I think it's clear that I can. Many thanks :)

If you check the Bioware ME2 folder in My Docs you can see them clearly in different folders, each with its own set of saves. Even characters with the same name will have different folders, though i'd avoid that for the sake of not confusing yourselves obviously :p
