Two graphics cards and clients

Okay, so I've popped both my 8600GTSs into one PC,installed 175.19 drivers (XP Pro) and everything looks okay as far as I can tell. I then loaded and configured two GPU clients and set them off. However it looks very much like the clients are sharing one card instead of taking one each - 13% CPU each instead of the 25% I expected and 12min per frame instead of 4.5 min when only one is running. So how do I tell the second client to use the second card? Do I need a monitor on the second card?

I think it may just have been the affinities. Both were forced to core 3 so I forced one to core 2 and they're both running at around 25% CPU. Quad core CPU, obviously. Just waiting to see how they settle down.

I'll plug a dongle into the second card anyway; thanks for the suggestion.

That's right rich, you need a DVI dongle on the second card aswell as to extend the monitor on the 2nd card, and a couple of other mods.

Go into "C:\Documents and Settings\User\Application Data\" where User is replace with your user name. You will see a folder called "Folding@home-gpu". Make a copy of the folder and call it Folding@home-gpu2 and put it in Application Data. Go into the new folder you created and delete the queue.dat file and everything inside the Work folder (but not the folder).

Now open up client.cfg with a text editor like notepad. Change the machineid to be different from any other clients you have.

Next go into C:\Program Files\Folding@home\ and make a copy of the Foling@home-gpu folder and rename it to Folding@home-gpu2

I guess you have a shortcut to the GPU client on your desktop. Right click on the desktop and choose properties. The target should read "C:\Program Files \Folding@home\Folding@home-gpu\[email protected]". At the end of the line put a space then -gpu 0 so the end now reads: [email protected]" -gpu-0

This will tell this client to use the first GPU in the machine. Now make a copy of that shortcut then right click on the copy and choose properties. Change the target from "C:\Program Files \Folding@home\Folding@home-gpu\[email protected]" -gpu 0 to "C:\Program Files \Folding@home\Folding@home-gpu2\[email protected]" -gpu 1, also change the Start In path from Folding@home-gpu to Folding@home-gpu2.

The 2 shortcuts now load up 2 seperate clients. If you want to use FAHmon to keep an eye on the clients, the path to use will be the folders in C:\Documents and Settings\User\Application Data\

Thanks. I was just missing the -gpu 0 and -gpu 1 in the shortcuts. The rest comes fairly automatically to the long-term folder. ;)
I've gone back to diskless F@H on that PC for the moment but will have another look once I've stomped theheyes. :D

Not much I can do about it so I won't let it worry me. I may put my efforts back to the original me soon to try to regain cell 5 so you won't be the only person going past.
