two harddrive's appear in the Safley Remove Hardware

My two harddrive's appear in the Safley Remove Hardware, i'm sure i didn't see them the last time i look. I have just installed a new mobo EVGA 780i running vista ultimate 32 bit. is this normal if not how do i change it.

are the HDD's formatted as FAT or NTFS? is delayed writes/write caching enabled?

My 2 Sata drives displayed under 'safely remove hardware' on my old EPOX motherboard but not on my ABIT board. Never could 'safely remove' them as they were always 'busy' so why it showed I'll never know!

Both drives are NTFS.

I'm sure it's something to do with the nforce sata drivers, it makes them hot swappable or something along those lines, it's nothing to worry about. If you want to stop them appearing their just uninstall the jmicron raid controller (i think thats what it's called.)

Or even you could go to the drives propeties, and under policies, un tick the optimize for quick removal.

Yup its to do with Hot Swapping them.

It appears on the Gigabyte mobo when the sata drivers are installed, and only shows for the Gigabyte controlers, not the intel ones.

^ Seconded. Almost certainly to do with SATA hotswap.
They are listed as removable storage because - they ARE removable storage

I'm sure this can be turned off in bios if you are irritated by it.
