Two issues with 295x2

This got a bit lost in the owners thread, so I'll try again.

The first is an annoyance rather than a big issue.

My AOC Q2770PQU monitor (1440p) is connected via the Mini DisplayPort but it has a real issues coming back on, once it goes in to power save mode (activated after 15 minutes).

Sometimes the monitor does come back on after a few attempts, other times I have to turn the monitor off and on again.

I always get this message afterwards

I can't connect the monitor via DVI because I'm using the DVI output with a HDMI adapter so I can use my 1080p plasma.

I could have course turn off power save, but I shouldn't have to...

The second issue is the biggest concern. I'm using MSI Afterburner 4.0 to monitor my stock card (not overclocked) and the Rivatuner overlay in games.

GPU 1 never really gets higher than 69C. However GPU gets to 74C pretty quickly and then that starts to show throttling on the core clock, from 1018 down to the low 900's.

I've checked the case to make sure nothing is causing the issue but I can't figure out why it would be getting hot so quickly. Do you think I might have a slightly faulty/poor card? It shouldn't throttle at stock speeds surely?

Case has a 120mm fan intake (pull) at the front, 2x 120mm fans on a Seidon 240m rad (CPU cooler) at the top of the case pushing air out and the 295x2 rad/fan are at the back of the case (higher than the card) to push air out the back.

CPU is overclocked 4770k to 4.5Ghz.

Doesn't seem to make a difference if I open the case up or not though.

Could fitting another 120mm fan on the outside of case where the 295x2 rad is help?

I think it's an airflow problem as when I had the side off the case and pulled it out of it's cubby whole the temperatures only hit 72C.

I think it is the DP next to the DVI port, will double check when I get in later.

I moved the radiator around last night so the pipes are now at the bottom. It's always been positioned higher than the card though because my exhaust vent is near the top on the rear of the case.

Unfortunately GPU is still throttling in Heaven 4.0 so I need to try and increase the airflow in to the case.

I may end up having to replace the front intake case fans with better ones. I think the case comes with a 140mm fan by default, but I believe it will take 2x 120's or even 2x 140's at the front.

I did see in another thread that people were reducing the 'mv' voltage or something like that leading to cooler temperatures?

Considering I'm not overclocking the card, is that something that will be safe to do, or could that affect the stability/lifespan of the card?

I figure AMD set it a certain level for a good reason though...

Have ordered the Akasa Piranha air ripper 120mm fan that I might put on the 295x2 rad to help vent the heat.

Also ordered 2x Akasa Viper FN063 140mm fans to replace my stock 140mm intake fan to try and improve the airflow in the case.

Hopefully this works otherwise I'm just throwing more money at it to stop the slight throttling! Bit worried about how much noise they will generate but my motherboard has 4 pin fan headers to control the speed.

Will let you know how I get on.
