Two match ban for swearing!

Rooney is a plonker for doing it, but a 2 match ban? Don't agree with it. A suspended 2 match ban would have been enough.

Does anyone remember when Rooney said the F-word in a post match on-the-pitch interview on Sky? :D

Never got punished for that :p

Or when he shouted "Get the **** in" when Lampard scored the penalty against Wales.

He should serve a 5 match ban for England tbh.

Even if partially accurate, I don't think that has anything to do with respect. These people you mention only have no respect because they can get away with it.

Bingo sadly. It's not just on the pitch but off it.

How many rugby players make up headlines like Premiership footballers do?

Bar the bloodgate scandal a while back I can't think of anything except random appearances in tv shows.

See this is where the FA Make themselves look bad. If the rules are there then apply them consistently and evenly. Punish all offenders and not just one because of the profile of who he plays for or who he is.

When players are telling each other to **** Off here or **** off there all in earshot of the Sky and ESPN mic's how is this different to what Rooney did. Surely this is not acceptable to the young ears that these players are trying to set an example to

Slightly OT but I was listening to Geoff Probin (ex England International) on the Radio Friday night and his thoughts on why respect in football is apparently different to Rugby. His point was that the rules are more complex and the penalties are more severe. It is accepted by both teams that the referee is using his common sense and interpretation of the rules to officiate the game.

Football on the other hand is demanding more and more respect for referee's. The game is evolving yet sadly the referee's are not and if anything getting worse. It is sad because without the ref's there would be no football.

i wouldn't say the penalties are more severe and neither would i say that a football player wants to win anymore than a rugby player, footballers have and always will have less respect for referees. atleast rugby had the sense to bring tv replays into the game to make decisions they were unsure off.

Penalties are more severe, particularly in your own half. Not sure how that makes any difference though? :/

What is the relative popularity of Rugby to Football, what is the relative media profile of Football Players to Rugby Players?

They are not so different, they are just treated differently by the media.

That is hardly related to respect, but the responsibility of the Governing Bodies.

Me too, I think we should pull everyone out of the England team, they seem to be doing their damnedest to **** us off

Same, problems have already surfaced about how often Jack Wilshere plays. He's going to be what Cesc is this season in a few years because he's not being rested properly in the summer.

I have no idea why he needs to play in U21 matches. He's proved now that level is beneath him, surely it'd be in England's own interests to give him time off.

Very differently, but can you not see why? They're loutish prats. When one is done another will be up to something fairly soon.

He's the next Gazza dontchaknow!

They will pimp him out at every opportunity.
