Yes, Vista has been installed for about two months now and it's mostly fine [apart from the fact that Catalyst Control Centre likes to fail occasionally and the OS has blue screened twice]...

But! Apart from that it's all oK....apart from the main problem - 25% of the time Vista won't shut down. It doesn't matter what I'm doing or how many apps I've closed, Vista will just hang on the 'Logging off' screen and I have to hold down the power button to turn if off.

This is a real pain and I'm wondering if doing this will damage any of my hardware. My system stability rating has gone down to about 4.8 through all the 'disruptive shutdowns' but there's no other way to turn it off!!

Does anyone know why this could be happening? I can't wait for SP1

How long do you leave it before switching it off via the power button?

Sounds like an application is hanging the shutdown process, could be a dodgy driver for one of your pieces of hardware or perhaps some dodgy software that you've installed over time.

You tried looking in the events viewer? (start / run / eventvwr) to see if theres any issues?

Haven't tried to look at the event viewer - just had a look on this PC which is in XP... what should I be looking for in the event viewer? Not sure I can understand it....

I agree it's probably some software or a driver. Finding out which is the difficulty though.

System is an E6600 with 3GB PC6400.
