Ok so I brought some new parts as I got it all pretty cheap, however I'm having problems with the new parts, and also my old parts. So...

Problem 1

2500k
MSI Z68 GD55
HyperX Genesis
5770
OCZ 450

I have connected everything up to do a POST test, switch on the PSU and fire it up. Problem is everything spins and lights up but shows nothing on the monitor. So far I've tried another set of RAM which I know works and get the same result, as well as one stick in each slot. My PSU I'm sure works as I had only just taken apart my old rig to try this one out, reset the CMOS and reset the battery over night

So, I have narrowed it down to the mobo or CPU. When I turn it all on, the CPU LEDs to show my CPU phase all light up, presumably meaning that it is working? However, could it also be a motherboard issue assuming I have seated my CPU correctly which I'm certain I did. I have also reseated the 8 pin (well, 4 in my case) and 24pin on both boards.

Problem 2
i5 750
MSI GD-65
g.skill ripjaws
5770
OCZ 450

My old setup will not even switch on at all. I turn it on with the power button and the screwdriver method but it does nothing! As my PSU turns on with my other board, and I havn't touched anything else, I would assume my motherboard is busted? I have made sure to keep myself grounded as much as possible, reset the CMOS, reset the battery over night.

My own guess is that the CPU is faulty in problem 1, and problem 2 is that motherboard is gone! :( That said, the fact that it was working just an hour or two before might suggest my PSU has failed? But why would it turn on using one motherboard but not the other! :s

Thanks for any input:)

Edit - just noticed the title is wrong :o 1 old setup and 1 new!

I've just tried my new setup again which was at least powering up before, just no POST - this time it isn't powering up itself. Could it be my PSU has died on me?

Quite possible, are you sure you didn't create a short installing the new parts. E.g. a motherboard stand off etc touching the underside?

Two complete systems with no boot does sound like a common issue ... shared PSU may be it.

Hey man, thanks for the input.

I've got everything on a cardboard box so it shouldn't have any problems with shorting. It is quite confusing how my PSU would originally power on with my old setup but not with my new setup! Maybe the new motherboard requires an 8 pin? Either way, neither are powering up now so I guess all I can do is buy a new PSU and see what happens!
