I wanted to know if I install two NVME SSDs on the X570 Tomahawk will it impact the performance?

I understand one will run from CPU and one will run from chipset but I dont know about the impact on performance because I always get confused with lanes so wanted to make sure.

thank you

On X570 all of the lanes should be PCIe 4.0 anyway.

You'd only expect things (PCIe slots, SATA ports, etc.) to start to become unavailable if you populate the third NVMe slot on boards that have them.

Should be ok as is the main reason to get this over b550.
I'll let you know tomorrow when I've finished my build :)

They all [can] be PCIe 4.0, but i'm pretty sure the two 1x slots on my x570 Tomahawk are PCIe 3.0.

----------------

To the OP - the chipset<>cpu link is 4x 4.0, so even if your secondary NVME 3.0 device was maxxed out it would only be saturating half the available bandwidth.

Just reviving this thread to see how you got on @xD3S1x

I'm looking for SSDs for my X570 Tomahawk now. Which SSDs have you got? Are you happy with performance? Did you need heat sinks?

buy the fastest pcie4 ssd m.2 you can for windows.
I would go for the new samsung pci4 980pro.
Then maybe another brand for more space (price) in the other slot.

Thank you! I was thinking down that line - high quality/speed/reliability for primary/boot drive and then something more "standard" for secondary, with more space of course.
Really appreciate that, a lot!

Now to figure out what the deal is with SSD heatsinks and my MoBo. Always learning

I’m running the sabrent rocket nvme’s in mine and they’ve been great. Using a 256gb for the os and a 1TB for games, I also have a 1TB Samsung QVO SSD for media

@Cadder

I went with WD SN550 for now and will be looking to add Sabrent Rocket 4.0/WD SN850/Samsung 980 Pro when they drop in price.

I have had a search of google and all i get are threads saying its not working with two drive but no fix, or this one where there is no issue, I have installed 2 2tb samsung nvme drives, both are shown in the motherboard visualizer, but only oneshows in bios or windows, have the latest bios (the beta) had the december bios and drive not detected in that either. what am i doing wrong?

I have the latest stable BIOS with a 500gb primary and a 1TB secondary. Both NVMe. Working fine from day 1. Had to use disk management to find the second drive first though. Was a short moment of panic before I realised I had to do that. Have you tried it?

yeah used admin power shell and diskpart no drive listed, really odd. will try the desktop disk management again, unplugged my sata temporally as read there is sometimes a conflict with sharing something or other lol.
