Hi there

I'm trying to find a strategy game I can play against my girlfriend. Ideally something based in the past, medieva etc etc (though if there are only future ones that'd be fine too). I know there are ones on the PC which I could get and play over a network/internet but havingonly one functioning computer that's not what I'm looking for.

I'd like something on a console which can be played two player (ie 1 v 1) either real time or turn based.

Are there any such games???

Consoles I have which could be used are PSX, N64, Dreamcast, Game Cube and Xbox, so fingers crossed there will be something.

Can anyone give me any ideas??? Thanks in advance for any help.

Your gonna be hard pushed to find any RTS that is played on a single console. You may however have much better luck with turn based stratergy though but thats not my thing so I cant really help :)

Risk II?
C&C Red Alert on PS1 was also able to play 1vs1 but you needed 2x PS1 + 2 copies of the game and a link cable.

To make this a whole lot easier on yourself if you've got a PC and a laptop you will be able to play these over a network as you said and there are a whole lot more choices open to you then :)

I could possibly do the laptop thing though the laptop I have is a really olf one with a tiny hard drive. So it'd need to be something pretty old.

StarCraft on the N64 was 2 player split screen. I don't really recommend it though, get it on the PC!

Edit: StarCraft would be perfect for you! It's by far the best RTS game out there and runs perfecty on a Pentium 1 75Mhz PC :)

It's stupidly popular and still patched every other month so you'll have no issues running it on any operating system.

RTS on consoles is really for single player (the older consoles anyway, but I cant see you forking out for 2x 360's to play some modern RTS over system link/xbox live)

I bet you could pick up a bigger lappy HD second hand for about £20-£30 (never owned one so I dunno how easier/hard it is to upgrade one) Then you have loads of RTS you can play against each other with.

Starcraft
Early C&C games
Risk II
Age of empires 2 (maybe? might just run it)
Early warcraft games (at a push it might 'work' on your lappy)

And Im sure there are loads Ive missed

Worms + Hogs of War can be got on PS1(not what you asked for but they are great fun :D)

Maybe a bit ot, but can you really play an RTS style game on a split screen? since the other person can watch exactly what you are doing?

That's what you want - just try and find another PC pretty much anything will run it, so you might even be able to find an old Pentium going free.
