Hi all,

Have an original Vive and thinking about getting a couple of Quest 2s for new year fun.

I have plenty of powerful PCs that can do the grunt work, so just wondering what I actually need to get cracking.

Quest seems decent prices for what you get.
I'm guessing no benefit to the 256gb version as of run off the PC? Any wires, add-ons, headset batteries that you'd recommend? The official wire to connect to PC doesn't look like it comes with it, but looks slightly silly price for a 5m usb c cable - anything special about this or are there good third party ones?

Cool - great tips all. In terms of native performance are the graphics noticeably worse and worth getting PC connection or is it pretty good?

Currently thinking two base Quests might work then?

Have orbi mesh WiFi, but could set up a WiFi 6 router in the lounge for both to connect to? (Have ethernet running from lounge to all rooms with PCs)

Graphics wise it's very game dependant. You do lose some fidelity on most titles when you compare them but on graphically light titles the difference isn't big (Superhot/Space Pirate Trainer/I Expect You To Die).

Best to check a comparison of the games you want before buying. Some titles are crossplay and some aren't so be careful with that.

Ah great, thanks for this, really helpful!

Sorry, a bit at a loss as to what quest threads you mean, I can see at least eight Quest threads on the first page of the forum alone. I'm not a quest owner, so that thread doesn't feel relevant and I wasn't asking about accessories which is the other megathread.

If there's some etiquette that operates in this forums Vs others, then be good to know as certainly wasn't clear!

Heheh, I'm used to it - there was only 4 girls out of 450 who did my electrical engineering degree... but I am rather fond of overclockers - not least as I designed their logo (fun factoid!).

Thanks for the help all - genuinely don't mind being told off if I'm doing something wrong, buy as I say just wasn't clear what it was. Sounds like it's a bit of a grey area, but some great advice here as always.

Varkanoid - really good tips, you're much nicer when you stop grumping... ;)

Just so I can validate - two PCs which I'll connect via cat6 to a dedicated-for-VR router (WiFi 6) in the lounge with the two quests connecting to that?

Couple of quick sense checks:
1) any issues with both Quests connecting to the one wifi6 router (eg bandwidth)

2) any issues with PC location? - ie both are upstairs and I'd ideally play in the lounge downstairs (I have cat 6 running between both, so hopefully ok)

No problem running two quests off one router configured like you suggest. Location wise the proximity to the router is important, the length of the rum to the PC from the router won't have any impact if hardwired.

One issue will be you need two separate accounts and each will have to purchase the game if playing via the Oculus app, so that will add cost. I think the same would apply if using Steam VR but not 100%.

Thanks Dave, good to know one router all that's required - yes, had figured I'd need to pay twice, so not unexpected!

it was a bad day

No should be fine, when it gets a bit warmer going to try mine outside in the garden/in front of the garage. Worked fine with the Quest 1, I've got better WIFI coverage now so the added play area will be amazing.

Awesome idea! Actually have pretty decent WiFi on main lawn as have an external router (orbi) positioned outside, so should be nicely set up for that (could also just temporarily run the Wifi6 router outside if any lags issues too.

Going to try that this year when it's much warmer as you say - if only to see the response of the neighbours watching a bikini-clad loon prancing around the garden in a vr set!

Heheh! Well I have form - there are some incriminating photos of me playing guitar hero in a bikini.... (I got 100% on all Bowie songs at hardest level and it was clearly connected to my attire... And drunken state).

I'll consider sharing some pics in summer!

What's the issue re sunlight/lenses? Do they melt???
