Two questions about my network & laptop setup

Hi guys

Two quick questions - I have a wireless network set up in my house which my laptop can connect to the internet through. I was firstly wondering how I could make this a 'secure' wireless network? - ie: making it so that you need a password to connect to it? I don't like the idea of other people being able to use it (when I'm in my house, it actually comes up with 6 other wireless networks within the area which I could connect to).

One more question - is there any way I can transfer data from my PC to the laptop without having to burn things onto DVD? I was wondering if I can hook up a cable, running into each network card or something like that? It would just seem a bit of hassle using up a load of blank dvds.

Thanks in advance :)

1.
look up WEP or WPA in your routers manual
configure your kit as described
(can't say more, you didn't mention what you have)

2.
get a RJ45 crossover network cable
plug into the respective network ports on your kit
configure file sharing on both PC's
(sometimes it helps if both WORKGROUP and logon/password are the same)

If your on a wireless network you can do it in windows with file sharing plenty of guides out their to help you set it up
