two questions about STEAM

Hey guys,

Just wondered if anyone could hazard a guess as to why it sometimes takes me three attempts to get steam to load properly?

Sometimes I double click steam and it'll appear for a couple of seconds and then it disappears. Then I try again, but the same thing happens...usually the third attempt fully loads (sometimes it does start straight away on first attempt though).

second question:

Are there any settings within steam that allow you to appear offline to friends etc? It's just that sometimes I like to play alone, or with different people, and as I don't want to appear rude to some of my steam friends I just wondered if there is such a setting?

First Question: Perhaps patience is a virtue?

Second Question: In the friends screen, go to Status -> Offline. If you want to Appear offline by default, go to View -> Settings and untick "Automatically sign into Friends when I start Steam"
