Hey guys,
I'm struggling to narrow down this problem and its driving me crazy after searching throughout the web to find a solution
The system in sig has an annoying problem on first boot where Windows will start but as soon as I log in, Aero crashes with the event log showing "The Desktop Window Manager has encountered a fatal error (0x8898009b)". I've tried restarting Aero by doing a net stop uxsms and then starting the same service but it just crashes within seconds. The only way to get it working is to boot, then before logging in, restart again and then everything works fine.
I've tried a fresh build and jumping straight to the latest ATI Catalyst drivers but still no avail. I've tried backing off the overclock, increasing voltage to the PCI-E bus but not the frequency, resetting memory timings to standard, reseating everything etc. The only thing I've yet to try and trying a different graphics card, the 6970 is a fantastic card so I'm either going to get a cheapo one to replace it until I can RMA it to Asus (which could take ages as its going straight back to them!) or just jump straight to a 7850 etc.
Anybody know of ways to resolve this?
Cheers
Edit: The card wasn't brand new but more bought from a seller on eBay as 2nd hand so no chance of getting it back to the initial vendor
Am thinking an Asus RMA will be my best bet at the moment
