So i'm to respray my fairings..

After a long bit of thinking I'v decided to spray it matt silver and black.
now my question is, do i need laquer coating? because thats going to give it a shiney finish isnt it?
and for a average job on a motorbike how many cans of colour spray, primer and laquer will i need?

thankyou.

this is ROUGHLY what i want it to look like.

You can get matte lacquer...But it's plastic so it won't rust will it? ;)

Just make everything matte black...The way all bikes should be.

if possible spray it using 2 pack paint and not spray cans for a road bike.

reasons as follows...

The reasons rattle can paint is crap are because:
The paint doesn't have a catalyst so it remains soluble forever. You could take a 40yearold rattlecan paint job & tomorrow you could wipe the paint off with a rag soaked in laquer thinner (or any of a number of other solvents).

It never stops shrinking, ever. It just keeps getting tighter to the surface, eventually cracks develope & it all turns to ****.

It's also brittle as all hell, easy to scratch, chip or inflict other damage.

You can get a good finish with it if ya put in a bit of extra work, but that kind of finish you get from rattlecans & extra work is the kind of finish you can spray straight from a gun with no extra work.

quoted from a pro sprayer.... and i think ive edited out his alternative words. :)

Had a yellow and black one myself and I thought it looked pretty good.

I'd paint it black and then get the stickers made up for you in silver. Stickers cost the earth from a dealership.

Good Luck.

P.S take pictures before hand so you can place the stickers back on in the correct positions.

I'd seriously pay someone else to do it. If you do it right, it will cost you a LOT in spray paint, lacquer, and mostly time - and the job won't be good enough to look good.
