Two Soundcards Possible?

I was just wondering if its possible to use two soundcards in one computer and, through windows, be able to choose which one the sound plays through.

The thing is, I have AC97 onboard audio which connects to the front of my Antec 900 very nicely. However, I also have a Soundblaster X-Fi which has a much better sound output so its what I use instead.

Sometimes I want to connect my sound output to my TV, so I can watch movies or whatever on the big screen, but its so much hassle having to pull plugs out of the X-Fi and switching things around. If I could switch to the AC97 soundcard and have the sound coming through that, then I could plug the sound connector into the front of the Antec and no problems at all.

Same thing when playing a game with microphone, I don't want to have to switch connectors so I can hear through the headphones, I'd rather plug them into the front of the Antec along with the microphone connector.

So are both being useable a possibility or will the conflict with each other? Or is there a way to connect the X-Fi up to the front connectors on the Antec? Or.. does the X-Fi have a front output thats sold seperately and connects to the X-Fi XtremeGamer edition?

As far as i know, two sound cards is not a problem. Just install them and driver tham up as usual.

You just select which you wish to use through Sounds and Audio Devices Properties in the control panel.

definelty no problem , just make sure theyre assigned to what you want them to do in the control panel or softwares options

Sometimes creative cards have had issues with another sound card, though I'm not sure whether this is the case now as it was a few years ago.

Technically there should be no problem!

I had dual running fine with an E-MU 0404 and a Terratec 5.1. Disabling one when I wasn't using it.

However X-Fi is different cos it's so problematic. (I have one)

Should theoretically work though :) :)
