The reason these are so cheap is because AMD has now ended all production on socket 939 processors. So they offered OcUK a deal we could not refuse on their remaining stock of 3700 and 4000 processors. We have now passed on this amazing deal to our customers. :D

Hi there

Remember this is the last of these processors now expect that in a months or so time stock will either not be available or prices will go silly high just like socket A processors did when they were no longer made............

Hmm.

That 3700 price is very tempting but for another £66 (+VAT), I can get another X2 3800.

An extra core for folding and the last one I bought is currently sitting at 2.9GHz on air

Very tempting Gibbo - but I'm a dual core convert now :p

Gibbo any idea if the X2 will drop in price soon too?

There is the possibility of a price drop in a months time. However there may be no stock left when it happens as AMD's inventry is running low and production is now ending. The move to AM2 is happening whether you like it or not.

So even though AMD are dropping prices means nothing as if there is no product then the same will happen as what happened with Socket A CPU's and prices will sky rocket possibly.

I was going to follow the advice of a guy in the general forum and upgrade my 2.8Ghz P4 for

CP-152-AM AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 3800+ (Socket 939) - OEM (CP-152-AM)
£149.95 £149.95
+ new motherboard obviously

but... that 3700+ is looking very tempting at that price! Is the extra performance of the x2 going to be worth the extra £70 when combined with a 512meg x1800xt?

It depends on what your going to use your pc for. If its for gaming I'd say a clocked 3700sd would be better than the dual core, but if your multi tasking then i'd go for the 3800

hmm so basically they have stopped making X2's, and IF they have any left in stock when conroe comes out, then they will drop prices... ok cool i think ill wait anyway, if there arent any, will just get a 2nd hand one, which drop in price as well cos of conroe..

Argh! dammit why is technology one step ahead of me just upgrading from socket a (XP2500 @ 2.3Ghz) ah well Sure new motherboard and a 3700 should be a good upgrade :D
