Two way SLI on X99 SOC FORCE

Two way Sli configuration is recommended to use PCI-E slots 1 and 2 (which are the 1st and 3rd lane on the board) this looks lovely but sort Of removes space for things like sound cards! Rather than squash one in the middle - is it possible to run SLI in the top two slots or will this cause issues?

Take some temp/benchmark readings with both ways, then decide.

I would bet on using 1 and 2 and 'squashing' your soundcard in the 'middle' (ish) with bring best performance and temps.

What a stupid design. Do EK make terminal blocks that can span 4 slots?

I have a normal one arriving today and will be building a 290X crossfire with 5960X on this. What's the Rampage Extreme V like for this?

You say slots 1 and 2 and "1st and 3rd lane" making me think you mean the top two x16 slots, and that you want to use the top x16 and "2nd lane" or the x1 slot.

That wouldn't work.

Slot 1 and 3 are what the manual says to use. They are both X16. Slot two is X8.

There's a 4 slot gap between 1 and 3 which means I can't use either of my EK Terminals.

So I need tubing, a third card or run it in X16/X8 which defeats the extra lanes of the 5960X. Looks like the Rampage Extreme V is the same.

I'm using EK. So I'll have to run in X16/X8 for now.

I might email EK and tell them that they should make one for two card configs on X99 platforms.

I am presuming that the SOC Force will work at X16/X8 using slot 1 and 2? If not my rig won't work today and I will have to wait another day for bits to turn up.

Sorry to bring this up S2kip! It's a pain the way it's designed- I've managed to wedge the card in - more of a pain coz the sound card was forgotten about and I'm on a full custom loop so had to be very careful edging the cards out to slip the sound card in! It's in now but it is resting on the lower cards back plate which isn't ideal. I have XSPC fittings and the long connector linked above - again an expensive lesson learned with SLI and the Z87x-Oc board I had before - it only supported it in the same slots.

Yeah but at least I know instead of finding out down the line that I've been running 16/8 all along.

Do you know if it will run at 16/8 using slot 1 and 2?

Looks like I will have to order another EK terminal to go with the two I now have... and might as well get some QDC while I'm at it.

Well another retailer sent me the dual with only two O rings instead of four, so I have to return that and I've ordered a triple and blanking plate.
