Two wireless laptops on network, one fast one slow!

Hi there,

I've just got Sky Unlimited Broadband in my new place and moved my computers in. My desktop PC is connected to the sky router via a wire and the connection is sweet, speedtest.net says about 35mb/s down.

I have two other wireless laptops in the house that I wish to use with the connection. One of them works ok, speedtest.net says about 2.5mb/s down, however the other one is only getting to about 0.5mb/s down.

Both the laptops say they receive 'excellent' signal from the router. The slower one sometimes just will not load any webpages and just sits there for an age and at other times will load a page reasonably quickly, but a lot less reliably than the faster of the two laptops.

Desktop is running Vista, laptops both Win XP.

I searched online trying to find my answer and messed around with a program called TCP Optimizer on all three machines which doesn't really seem to have done anything.

I am very inexperienced in this field so any help would be much appreciated, especially in plain english as I'm certainly no computer expert.

Thanks!

Does the slower laptop stay slow when the other laptop is switched off?

Also, I wasn't aware Sky did over 20mb speeds. That's whats advertised with their Unlimited package.... "Up to 20mb". No mention of 34

Did you miss a decimal point?

First thing I would do is to make sure both laptops have the latest drivers for the wireless card :)
