Forget about extreme pc's with one motherboard, Tyan have created a SPC ( Super Personal Computer) to use deskside. It will probably be the fastest pc available by far, and when the woodcrest version comes out it will be the fastest pc to be used at home by far!

I would love to buy one of those!!

Back in March, we reported that Tyan was showing off prototypes of its 8- and 16-core Typhoon Personal Supercomputers (PSC) at CeBit. Now, the company is officially making those computers available. The Typhoon can support up to eight physical processors, which gives you up to 16 processor cores.

Anyone else interested in getting an Personal Super Computer! :)

Although, let me make this clear, im not going to use it for gaming, it's purely going to be an extention of my current setup for hard calculations and developement :) (FYI, it's not a gaming rig)

I was expecting them to be really boring sun cpu's or something - I know woodcrest was mentioned for the future in one of the above posts - but opteron compatability right now is great!!

Wouldnt even like to think about how much it would cost to put the hardware together - let alone MS licensing -- I guess for that type of machine Linux would be a huge incentive

Fabulous folding machine!!!

edit.... on Tom's page they definitely mention Opterons however on Tyan's own its "only" Conroe and Woodcrest - brilliant but still slightly disappointing in my view (also just made the prospect even more expensive )

You can get single mobos that support 8 opterons and have been able to for years 8x2 = 16 cores so its nothing new.

Maybe in the server market - not the Personal workstation ( which is what this is a variety of) also I am not entirely sure there are mobo's that would support the dual core 939 opty's but I could be wrong......

They both have 8 cpus so you cant really call one a server and one a workstation the 8 way opteron boards fit in a normal atx case. Opterons are designed for both the server and workstation market.
