I'm on Phone so couldn't get to the YouTube link. Was expecting something like that to be honest. Especially the brakes and tyres

Was expecting the usual, OMGz I beat a Ferrari video (the ones where the Ferrari is just cruising). But that just shows what a competent car the CTR is, especially with a driver as skilled as that one.

God I want another Honda.:(

In fairness you can take any half decent car, completely change its entire suspension, brakes, strip out weight, add a little more power, add sticky tyres and with a good driver, thats the kind of results you can expect.

Simple fact is professional drivers on the Nurdburgring could only manage 8:47 from the stock CTR on road tyres.

Wheras with changing pretty much the entire car, this guy has found another 50s, reducing his ring time too 7:57 :)

Also bear this in mind, stick the same driver in that Ferrari, it will be quicker in its road trim, dare I say it, do this to that Ferrari so its even more focused as a track weapon, it will go even quicker again.

This is why so many people buy old 328i's, put slicks on them, coilovers, strip the entire car and all of a sudden for trackdays they are one seriously quick car but also cheap. :)

There's one thing being able to afford a Ferrari, there is another is being able to afford one, and not being bothered by the idea of crashing it to the point where you can drive it at 10/10th's factor, which is why I am always dubious of "Oh I was on track with xxxx and I kept up in my 1.2 clio"

very true, a lot of exotic cars don't get driven in anger but when they do, do you think they are going to be 10/10s like this civic driver? Probably not.

right then lads,

my custom 2.5' silenced B-Pipe is being made & fitted Monday [and N1 fitted obviously]

this has got me thinking.

should i bother going further and going for an inlet manifold/race header/k100/pro

few questions if anyone can help

would a manifold with a sports cat be a better option, if so which one.

would running the header and inlet without a hondata ecu have any negative effects on the car until a modded ecu was fitted?

had a quote from TDI for around £800 for a k100 tuned and fitted.

would it be an idea to buy a 2nd hand kpro meaning i have my original unmodified ecu still.

whats this about immobilisers with a kpro?

essentially, would i need to take a 2nd hand kpro to honda, remove my ecu and place the kpro in it then get them to code the kpro ecu to my car?

being a dumb person in this area, do they just code the ecu to match your alarm settings?

Basically the immobiliser is disabled and the key icon flashes on the dash until you get it recoded at Honda I believe. The central locking and alarm etc still works I think.

I also believe a header will have the car running lean at WOT without relevant mapping. That for a period of time can't be good, it would be best to avoid it. Most people get all the parts at once including the ECU and make it once trip to the specialist to get it all fitted and set up. The Kpro has base maps that *should* be safe without needing mapping to your specific set-up which most people run for a while before going for a proper dyno session.

Just enjoy the car, rather than spending all your hard earned on go faster mods.

It cost a lot to get anything out of these VTEC engines and even then it's not much. As nice a KPro would be it's a lot of money to get setup properly and I would rather take it to the likes of Will @ RDT rather than TDI.

Why not TDI, I see nothing but praise written for them from many Type R and other owners.

I hear good things about them too and they're close to us Stokies.

I think I will leave chasing any power... but I am just adding up all the bits I will no doubt need to change when adding some 150 quid lowering springs.

Quickly looking like a 650 quid job by the time I'm done with camber arms and bolts, gonna get new ARB drop links, track rod ends and hope my bushes are all fine, top mounts fine etc, so need to get it all checked/inspected soon.

Any recommendations on a good place to get such stuff? I assume Honda OEM bits are best, not anything aftermarket?

I got my KPRO 2nd hand for £670. I use the tuned base map that was set up for a standard Civic Type R. Runs like a dream with no engine knocking, noticeably quicker and adds about 30hp across the midrange.

When fitting the KPRO, you program the map with the engine immobilizer disabled which allows you to drive with a flashing immobilizer light. Ring around a few Honda garages and play them off each other asking how much it would cost to recode the ECU to to key. Mine cost £45, but I reckon I could have got it cheaper if I'd of rang a few places.

When you go the garage, take your laptop as you need to upload the map with the immobilizer enabled again before they can recode.

Catback and induction, you can get away with using a base map but with mods it's recommended to get it custom mapped which is about £300. With an RBC header, it's not an option, you have to get it custom mapped.

I would get a 2nd hand KPRO if you can. You get data logging, can reset engine codes and tweak the VTEC engagement point. There always up for sale on the forums around the £600 mark and then get it custom mapped. This would be close to a new K100+mapped price. BUT, if you get a separate ECU and not piggybacking your own ECU, when it comes to sell ( if you ever do ) you can just put back your original ECU and sell the KPRO for around the same price as they don't lose value really.

KPRO is the best mod ever :) Changes the car.
