Type R and VTEC owners

Hi guys, just after some advice, im after a 07-09 Type R

I'm kind of spoilt with ones within 50miles to me, im yet to look at any but are 2009 ones worth getting over 07? Only thing ive noticed is USB in the dash and Xenons, any other upgrades?

Anything to look out for while test driving?

Treated myself to a super charged FN2 last night, it's bloody fantastic!:D

Nice - what does it have in the way of LSD?

If you're buying the standard car then the only one's I'd say that were worth having particularly out of the later cars would be 2010 models with a LSD (or the CW, but they're very expensive). The 09 usb port is pretty crap tbh.

Cars with Nav have a bit of a better dash / display but they tend to be hard to find.

In terms of what to check, make sure if it's sitting around 75k that it's had the proper (expensive) service or get the equivalent money off. Also make sure the car has a proper history, i.e Honda or specialist with valve clearances etc as appropriate.

Paint is shocking, so if anything it might be better to find one that's had a front end respray. Springs have a bit of a tendency to snap and the screens inside can be scratched really easily which gets pretty annoying on a sunny day.

climate control relay can go leading to random heating / cooling but is cheap and easy to fix.

3rd gear syncro can go, avoid a car with this

Can't think of much outside of that.

Cheers mate, il try to find a low miler then.

Saw an amazing 2010 one in a bluey/purple colour earlier, looks so good!

I wouldn't particularly look out for a car with low miles, I'd just make sure you don't end up footing the bill for a £400 service having just paid top whack for the car

The blue is my favourite colour by a mile

Strip and sell, you'd make a fortune.

Thats the plan but I plan on keeping it a month or two as it's so much fun! But I know this will be my last type r that I keep for myself as I've been wanting a E92 M3 for a while now aswell :) The car's only got 35k on the clock aswell and it is immaculate, not a mark anywhere! :)

That Charged FN2 must have had some serious money thrown at it

How much did it set you back!?

Just went through all the paperwork and reciepts, they add up to around £35k excluding the cost of the car

35k on a supercharged FN2 that makes only 100bhp more than stock?

Andrew Moore who used to work at OcUK is knocking on 500BHP from his supercharger apparently.

Dont ask me, ask the previous owner why he spent so much, It's not just about the power, the parts that it's fitted with are quite expensive, for example, the front brakes on their own are around £1500, the coilovers £2000 etc etc, so you can see how it all adds up. The genuine mugen kit isnt cheap aswell, although I'm not complaining, I got it for a very good price and it is very good fun, if 311bhp is so quick, I can only imagine what Andrew's car is like but then again isnt he running a rotrex and has a forged engine?

Stock GTR money which would destroy any Civic in every possible way! Why?

If I had that amount of money, I'd buy a GTR but I didnt pay that much, I paid considerably less ;)

Pics please SS!

Will get some when the weather pics up :)

just the kraftwerks kit. which is a rotrex. I dont believe his engine is forged though.

just seems like a monumental amount of money to spend for a relatively small bump in power.

and would cost 500% more to run...

ye them GTRs are not cheap to run. Standard replacement parts cost a fortune.

BTW tdi north build k20 450hp or something on stock insides and was fine for years apparently .

A GTR will still be quicker and the better car though.

Anyone who can spend 35k on an FN2 modding it can afford tyres and fuel for a GTR, a bone stock GTR is very reliable and has warranty, so no replacement parts to pay for. :)

From memory there is an EG Civic in the states with a B16 running around 700bhp with half the engine on stock factory internals like cranks etc. Testament to the engineering put in by Honda, the K20 are also over-engineered, and people haven't found their full potential yet.

Gibbo true 35k on civic is to much even in my standards. Anything over 10 000 is overkill :P

its like my mates rx8 previous owner must have pumped like 15k on it and. Now my mate as second owner got it for 2000 pounds :P
