Hi all, what a glorious day!

I went to unlock my EP3 Civic Type R today to go back to work, aimed the fob at it, pressed the button and.... Nothing!

Weird

So indoors I went, got the other fob, and sure enough - nothing happens. I put the key in the ignition turn it, and nothing happens! I tried locking/unlocking the car with the key a few times, and attempted to start it again, but to no avail. The immoboliser light on the dash isn't lit at all, so it's probably something uber complicated / terminal.

At this point I angrily gave up, and rode my bike back to work in the pouring rain

Whilst at work, my wife managed to get it working again for a short while, but now it's dead again. Brilliant!

I'm getting seriously annoyed with this car now, it's been nothing but trouble over the last fortnight. I'm here in an attempt to gain enlightenment on the problem, but I hold out little hope....

HELP!! :(

No, sorry, forgot to mention that everything works, A/C, lights, stereo. Dash lights up as normal when key is turned, but nothing happens - it doesn't turn over.

I've had the same thing with a ford focus before, it seemed to happen every now and again in certain places. Usualy it would work again after leaving it for 10-30 minutes. It seemed to be down to electrical interferance, with some places being really bad for it.

What are you talking about, it's not French, it's Japanese, they never go wrong?? Well according to the law of the BBS they don't anyway :p

Does sound like a flat battery or something, have you had the charge checked?

Although just read your second post, immobiliser not working properly possibly?

How have you managed to get the air con working without the engine?

I take it you mean the fan in the heater matrix works.

Yep, that's what I meant.

Had this on my rover ages ago where the immobiliser would lock the car and i would have to get it towed to arnold sharks to get the immobilier and fobs reprogrammed.

I would post on the CTR or Honda Revs Forum thats where I get my info when stuff goes on my ATR.

Its maybe something draining power from the battery thus tripping the immobiliser. For my Rover it turned out to be the central locking relay.

Hope you get it fixed

Cheers ;)

I've posted up on the CTR forums, but no answers yet.

My neighbour is an AA mechanic, so maybe I'll ask him...

I had this problem with a 97 fiesta, the transponder ring around the ignition barrel had packed up, my remote locking didnt working either. I guess the whole security system on the car is linked into one computer.

I can't be of any use other than to suggest that it could still be a dead battery. Alternatively, unplug the battery and leave it for 5 mins in case of an ECU fault (this may not be recommended for some cars, do some googling).

Failing that, I'll give you £50 and the wife's 1.4 Civic for it :p

It I don't have any luck later by fiddling with the battery, perhaps we can deal. Say 60 notes and the 1.4? :p :D

Well, my good neighbour had a look. There was nothing apparently wrong with anything, and looking through the fault directory on his laptop at a glance, there was nothing he had on there to link it with anything specific.

There are apparently water ingress problems associated with the alarm receiver, behind the NS kick panel (which we removed), but it was dry in there (made us think though, with all the rain atm). Tried fuses, battery discon/recon amongst other things. My neighbour is going to see if he can dig up anything else on his database tomorrow and have another look in the morning.

It's one of his days off aswell, and to spend it helping me out in peeing rain, he deserves a few damn good beers.

Should've stuck with my old Astra :p

I am going to suggest the alarm code reader (sorry I have forgotten the proper name) ring around the ignition barrel is knackered thus not even recognising a key has been inserted.

Someone above called it a transponder ring but I don't think that's the correct name.

So your immobiliser isnt deactivating? I dunno about the civic but my dads laguna does try to turn over when the immobiliser is on.

His receiver broke when some water got it but he dried it out and its worked fine since. If its just the immobiliser stuck on do you have some sort of button you press so many times to disable it?

My dads car needs the door lock button inside to be pressed so many times in a certain way and it deactivates the immobiliser.
