I think this should be more for GD than the music board since it's a very general topic.

The question is - what type of music can't you stand? The type that will make you leave the room because you detest it so much.

One of my colleagues started saying she would go to a funk festival which ired me... OK, she's allowed to like whatever she wants but just the thought of it sets my teeth on edge.

I personally can't take funk, soul, motown, anything like that. However, the worst thing for me is reggae. Makes me want to kill people.

yeah "kid rock" or that genre. Loads of generic same sound rock bands

I'm convinced that some of these bands don't play their guitars in the studio, there's just a synth somewhere with a "very heavy power chord" setting used.

What a waste of energy hating something you don't have to expose yourself to if you don't enjoy it.

All genres produce music which can be found terrible. This is a silly thread.

For me it's not only about disliking genres of music, but things you associate with them.

For instance not only do I tend to dislike motown, reggae etc but the kinds of people that listen to them. Their personalities/outlooks/other interests usually are very different from mine and their musical taste is just an example of this.

I once had a girlfriend who loved steel pans, drum n bass and speed garage. Her culture was very different and that was shown in her musical taste, another reason why we didn't gel in the long term. She also described my taste in music as ****, which I would never do to anyone. I don't think anyone has bad music taste per se, just different.

Not a type of music, just a particular band; The Audition.

They were supporting another band I went to see. They're were seriously the worst thing I've ever heard.

MySpace page? I have to hear this.

A lot of people here are talking about death metal. I wonder if they know what death metal is or if they could name one band.

I really don't like, pop, trance/dance or whatever it's called, reggae, soul, hip hop, rap, operatic, boy/girl band, soft guitar music (Muse, McFly etc) and plenty more, but not being "with it" I don't know what it's called.

LONG LIVE ROCK AND METAL!!!!!!!!!!

Grrrr!!

I don't agree. It may have been when it was starting out, you can see where the derivative lies back when it was in its infancy. It is so far removed from music these days I hesitate to even refer to it in the Music forum, so calling it rock is, in my opinion, an insult to rock :)

It's not my opinion, it's just fact. Metal is a more extreme form of rock but all metal comes under the rock umbrella. Rock is a huge category embracing many subgenres.

As for being far removed from music, I agree there are many terrible metal and metalcore bands out there. However, a lot of metal [i.e. progressive, death, avant-garde] is more musically and technically proficient than a lot of other Western 'music'.

EDIT: I just noticed !T.O.O.H! on that list. God, that saga was a mess....

No genre will make me leave the room but chart pop and death metal(or/and whatever Slipknot is) will make me change the station.

Slipknot is generally categorised as Nu-Metal, which isn't an accepted form of metal.

This thread has shown an interesting thing though, that a lot of people think they know what death metal is when that's not the case. No-one has mentioned a death metal band so far.

It doesn't really matter though, it's all dislikeable if you dislike it!

EDIT - Amon Amarth.. now that's more like it :p
