Hi all

Currently have an Asus P5N32-E SLI Plus motherboard with an E6850 and 2 x 1G Corsair Twin 2X C4 ram sticks.
Have tweaked to +5% in the bios but don't really have the time to do full o/c hence this question.

Am running Vista 32bit and looking at changing ram , its Christmas and time to spoil meself.

Would it be worth going for 2 x 2G ? looks like only 3 G used and timings are reduced due to load on memory controller ??

Or should I go for SLI ram [ write up says my mobo supports this ] ? 2 X 1G . And if so 800 speed or 1066 ? OCZ look nice but not sure if either compatable with my Asus.

In these days of too much choice any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

OcUK had the Corsair PC6400 XMS2 EPP RAM on special last week, but you'll see very little improvement with EPP (SLi) RAM over normal RAM.

The RAM you have now will probably do 880-900MHz if you set it up properly and your CPU will probably be quite happy to match up with that.

20-30 minutes of fine-tuning will see you get 100 times more speed than spending £50 on RAM would.

[Edit] - I think you'll find your RAM is SLi RAM[/Edit]

Thanks for that.
At the risk of being called 'a lazy bugger ' , any idea what sort of timings I'm looking at to max out what I've got.

Again, any help much appreciated.

When you say you have +5% overclock in the bios do you mean you are using the AI overclock? If so read up on here and do it manually as the AI overclock is rubbish in my experience as it just keeps pushing volts and temps up much more than needed. You would get better results doing it manually.

Your ram should easy reach 900Mhz with 5,5,5,15 timings maybe lower on 2.1v

Well, I've got 4 sets and none of them will do 900MHz "easy" at 5-5-5-15.

What revision are yours? The Rev 1.0 chips were Crucial GM9H, but the later ones are Elpida chips and they don't clock at all well.

I have the elpida chips :( and they do 900 but not much more.

I am looking to add another 2gb as i run vista 64 and ram is so cheap but it looks like they don't do the 6400 cas4 black dominator sticks like i have but i have noticed similar looking ones with a silver spreader. Can i ask would these be compatible with my twinx6400c4d sticks or do i need to source older stock?.
