Typical cause for game freezes

I have it where it totally jams for one -5 seconds, where sound cuts out, image is still and I cannot control anything. Any idea as to what I can try and solve it? THanks

Check your memory first of all... run a windows memtest with one stick in at a time to see if their are any problems...

also run a chkdsk /f to see if your hdd or ssd could be the cause

also, uninstall all drivers using driver sweeper in safe mode and then install all the latest drivers from manufacturers websites

Thanks, I did these, useful to know. Turns out the problem was assigning performance to background processes rather than programmes turned out to be the problem
