When I received my car a few weeks ago, the tyre walls were nice and glossy but that shine soon disappears after a few days. Is there a product that helps keep the black glossiness for longer?

Long time Meguiars Endurance user, the last bottle I bought was about 18 months ago and I still have half left, applied to 2 cars at every wash. Its pretty versatile too, if you want a shine you apply and leave it, if you want a dark lustre but a bit more matt you lightly buff it after 10 minutes or so. I've left it 2 months between applications before and while you can tell its faded, it still doesnt look too bad after that time.

If you're wanting a more versatile product though, worth having a look at CarPro Perl, it can be used on tyres, plastics, engine bay components, interior trim etc in different dilution ratios and CarPro products are generally all top quality.

Thanks guys. You've sold me on Meguiars Endurance gel. Yes, apparently it will keep my tyres shining for weeks, not just days! £10.40 at Halfords and Amazon. Doesn't appear to come in spray form. Pour on to sponge and apply. Any old sponge, or do you recommend a particular one/type? Non spray might work out more economical.

I've just found my old bottle of tyre blackener. It's ok but isn't particularly long lasting.

I use one of those little round applicator sponges you can buy: you just want something small. I got a multi-pack of them a while ago for under a tenner, can't remember where though. Either costco or amazon most likely.

I use Autoglym instant tyre dressing but rather then spray it on I decant the bottle into a tub and use a paint brush to apply. A cheap brush at least the height of your sidewall makes it much easier, especially getting right up to the rim. Spraying doesn't work for me as the overspray just gets dirt stuck to it after a while.

I have the Meguiar's stuff but almost always use Autoglym tyre dressing, as it's so much quicker and easier and does a darn good job imo.

Dishwashing sponges are OK (not the green scourer side)
Also cheap 2"ish paintbrushes like you get in poundshops and chop the bristles down to about 1" long otherwise it over-pickups and flops around dripping onto the wheel.
I think that Wet'n'Black stuff is pretty good.

Do you guys feel it's essential to use degreaser on your tyres to clean and remove old dressing before each new application of dressing? Apparently isopropyl alcohol works well.

Also, apparently Megiuars Endurance, being petroleum based, reactivates when warm and 'slings' drops of liquid over paintwork according to reviews. Has anyone found that a problem compared to water based products?

Gyeon Tire is notably better than megs endurance, it lasts a lot longer!

Being in spray form only, would you go through the bottle quicker than say a bottle of Endurance gel?

This video does a longevity test with Megiuars Endurance, Gyeon, Chemical guys VRP and another product, and after 2 weeks they've all worn off. The one that fared best is Chemical Guys VRP.

Only if you've used too much. I've never had any 'sling' from it.

Cool, good to know. Approximately how many days or weeks of shine or sheen do you get between applications, and do you degrease first and scrub, and what with?

The shine lasts probably a few days, maybe a week, though I 'buff' it with an old bit of rag for a slightly less glossy finish as Invertigo mentions above. The tyres stay dark for a couple of weeks before they begin to show signs of going grey/brown. Generally i'll whip round the tyre face with an old detailing brush and some 'citrus prewash' spray whilst cleaning the wheels, then apply the tyre gel as my very last step once the tyres have dried off.

I've watched a few YouTube tyre dressing reviews now and so far the only ones that genuinely keep shining for 2 weeks or more are Gtechniq Ti Tyre and Trim and Swissvax tyre dressing pneu, but you get less in the bottle and are quite expensive.

Had my bottle of Tire for a couple of years now. And I wash 3 Cars regularly. Plus I use it to dress my arches for a quick fix.
