i'm off to norway for a year and as a result i will need winter tyres.

the leon came with both summer and winter tyres, which is handy, but alas no extra rims.
i already changed the winter tyres with the summer tyres last week, so that's fine.

I am planning on changing the winter tyres back onto the same rims in a few months, however they are 17", and i'll need 2 new winter tyres, which will probably cost around £150 each as they are 225/45 R17

anyway, my question is: does changing the tyres on the rims twice a year damage the tyres and/or rims. obviously, i can understand that the machine puts strain on the sidewalls when changing the tyres, but is this really a problem?
either i buy 17" steel wheels to match the tyres, or buy smaller ones, which will look rubbish, or buy another set of 17" alloys (expensive).

what would you recommend?

It shouldn't damage them if it's done properly, but all the same, if it was me I'd buy a set of cheap steelies to put the winter tyres on.
