Getting some local quotes for fitting 4 tyres I bought online.

£15-18 fitting & balancing per tyre
£30 tracking

Around £106 total.

How does this compare to your area?

A few years ago tyre fitting was a fiver. Now suddenly to get 4 tyres fitted and balanced is approaching £80-£100 for what, 5-10 minutes work, I really dont understand

Especially as most places will sell you some Wan Li Super Skid Pro's for £19 for your 106 diesel - cheaper than fitting alone!

£15-£18 per tyre fitting is ridiculous. Guess it depends how much you love your "balancing".

Personally i'd get em all fitted for a quick tenner somewhere dodgy.

And "tracking" was a tenner down my local tyre place anyway.

My mate owns a Tyre/Exhaust place & when i say own i mean it in the literal sense so it costs me next to nothing but then I do send a lot of people down there on recommendation & get on with All the family.
I'd say a tenner a corner is fair but then you guys with Flash motors I would say pay whatever makes them happy so they are kind to your alloys. I've seen many a decent alloy mashed up by some monkey whilst balancing or fitting tyres.

Depends on the car - some cars are particularly affected by not 100% perfect wheel balance.

Full allignment on the E39 for example is circa £90.

I had my tracking done at ATS a couple of months back for £21 - I could have sworn they were advertising £5 a corner for fitting & balancing when I was there.

After a lot of research in my area (Henley-on-Thames/Reading/Newbury) i found a few places which offered cash in hand style fitting for around £20 all in. Work your way through the yellow pages calling the small places who will likely do a cash deal.

The mainstream places i phoned either wouldnt fit user supplied tyres, or were £20 a corner as youve found.

The increase in fitting and balacing costs is probably down to the web based tyre retailers cutting margins on tyres. Everyone has to make a living and if they can't make their money on the product they'll bump up the cost of the service.

The other factor is probably down to cars having much bigger wheels than they ever did in the past, and most cars now have alloys which means you need to decent equipment maintained to a good standard to prevent damage to the rims - if you bent an old steel rim fitting a tyre you could simply hammer it back into shape which you can't do with an alloy.

Because the rise in the use of online tyre supply places has altered the market and pricing structures have altered accordingly.

I get my tyres fitted, re-valved and balanced for £10 a wheel, used to be cheaper but the lead weights cost more than they used to.

tracking I also get done for £10

Got the tyres for our sprint car done for £10 each cash in hand and he only did that rate because I was having 8 fitted at once. Could probably have got them cheaper but I needed them doing at quite short notice and didn't have time to chase around.

It used to take them about 30 minutes a tyre on my M3 rears, not least because I watched over them to ensure they didn't scratch them and they were REALLY hard to take off. My GT3 used to take even longer because they could never find a jack that would go low enough and it would not fit on a normal ramp, so I used to end up driving onto a lid from a big barrel to raise it an inch so they could get a jack under it! :D

If they do a good job it's worth it, does this include tyre disposal?

The cheapest so far:- (incl VAT)

£12 - fitting
£4 - wheel balancing
£2 - tyre disposal
£30 tracking

The tyres (4 x Falken 452) cost me £264 from Camskill. There isn't much difference between the above and the higher quotes.
My main concern is that I don't want to end up with gashed alloys.
