Tyre Help

With tyres, there is only two main options...

Toyo T1Rs on a budget and Goodyear Eagle F1s GSD3s for a better tyre. Avoid Nan-ditch-finders like the plague!!
 
Well, I've used both the T1Rs and the F1s. In the dry they are both almost perfect tyres. The T1Rs are slightly more slippy in the wet but they are quite a bit cheaper than the F1s IIRC.
 
ive got eagles on the GOlf. between wet and dry, there is not really a lot of change in the feel in the steering, grip doesnt appear to be effected at all.

now my brother has a clio, which i borrowed for a couple weeks. its on ditch finders. its a 1.2 with naff all power, yet could wheelspin in 2nd at the merest hint of rain due to dodgy tyres

your not trying hard enough!!!

lol, it is true though eagles are great in the wet, so are toyo's but the eagles are a bit better. Not too much difference in the dry. Ditchfinders especially this time of year are just plain dangerous! Unless you drive like my nan in which case you may be ok, untill you need to do an emergency stop in the wet of course!
 
When you compare the prices of nankangs to the Falken 452's i would deffo go with a proven tyre over the nankangs.

I actually currently have nankang NS2 on my front wheels and the Falken 452's on my rears.

The Falkens are totally amazing compared to my slippy slippy nankangs!! (Just to say I am never buying nankangs again!)

i wouldnt want to push harder, you never know when you need to lean that little harder on what you have in reserve.

i dont understand people who happily buy useless tyres. about as good as buying rubbish condoms. false economy
 
I've got F1s on my Hyundai Coupe, best tyres I've ever had. Wet they are excellent, you don't get as much grip as in the dry, but they are amazing compared to all the cheap to average stuff I've used in the past. You need a river to make them aquaplane too. When you pass the grip limit, they keep on scrabbling and biting, so no "I'm fine... oh crap!" moments, they are progressive. They seem to be lasting a long time too. Very impressed.

Totally agree with the condom statement, it's the one bit of the car you cannot afford to scrimp on. Save a bit of cash only to spend it on someone to refurb your alloys after you kerb them when you loose grip. I had cheap tyres on my old Focus, then went to P6000s and the car felt much better. P6000s are OK, but they are noisy and poor when it gets greasy.
 
thoroughly dissapointed with the wet traction performance my Conti SportContact 2's give

they are good in bone dry weather, and even in the wet they dont understeer too much een when pushing, but stopping and starting is just dire.. starting isnt so much a problem, but stopping has cause a couple of near misses over the last few weeks.. and one actual contact... so.. i won't be buying them again.. for my next set i'll be buying yokohama A032R's or A048's

It relies heavily on how hard you drive the car... I'm only expecting around 7000 miles from the T1Rs on the back of my car (however it is RWD, and enjoys roundabouts :p ). On a Focus, I imagine you'll find they last the same as most other tyres give or take 1k miles.
