Tyre need replacing?

So, I lent my car to the sister in law and this happened.

The alloy is a mess so pretty ****** off but will the tyre need replacing? I would assume so but I'm not sure how thick sidewalls are...

If so I'd take the old tyre once replaced and stick it firmly up her backside!

She's offered to pay for the tyre but doesn't remember hitting a curb. The tyres are only about 6 months old but it's the alloys I'm more wound up about!

So took it to Kwik Fit to get it replaced and he basically talked me out of it. Of course he has to 'advise' I change it but because it's not deep enough into the rim protector it won't have any negative effect unless that spot is hit again etc etc. Nice when people are honest!
Now to get to work on sorting my alloy, you can't see much of the damage in the photo as most of it is half way up the 'spokes'. Coincidentally the street she lives on has very high curbs, I'll be scouting them out for missing chunks next time we go round!

I'll get it changed next month but can't afford it this month really.
I'm pretty amazed the bodywork around the wheel arch wasn't nicked!

Haha. She's offered to pay but I'll probably end up just covering it myself as they do stuff for us as well (them working in events has its perks!).
