Right, my motor needs some new rubber on the back, mytyres seem pretty cheap, but their pricing confuses me. The tyres I need are Conti Sport Contact 2 (275/35/R18).. they list two of them, one is Y rated, the other is ZR rated:

As far as I know, Y rated is technically 'faster' than ZR, and that particular tyre seems to have a load rating high enough for my car.. so why is the ZR so much more expensive

I mailed mytyres for an explaination and all they sent me back was a bit of text explaining what Y rated and ZR rated meant, which was no use at all.

Any ideas? :)

The Zr rating is the old style rating system which is slowly being replaced. Maybe the ZR's are older stock and the retailer isn't smart enough to discount em but just leaves em moldering at the original price.

That's pretty much what I thought, just wanted to make sure i'm not ordering the wrong tyres :)

I've just found 2 other places with the same price structure.. now I'm confused! Tempted to just pay 20quid a corner more and get them done locally.

Is this for the BM!? Contis are just bad for BMs IMHO, the inside edges wear stupidly fast compared to some other brands of tyre. Do you really 'need' the conti's?

The contis are excellent on the M5, but i've heard they are pretty poor on the 3. I've done 22k on mine, and they still have a fair bit left yet.. not bad for the car I drive :)

As for fitting, I factored that into my price differences anyway.
