I hate tyres.

Last week it was me kerbing the wheel that ripped the tyre to bits :D (3000 miles old :( ) so that one was replaced.

Now I find in another tyre this evening a screw, great.

This is the second tyre I've had with a screw in now, this car seems to attract them, luckily this one is a bit more worn.

Last week the tyre place sold me the last on of these tyres so I hope they have more in stock tomorrow.

So getting to my question:

Can I mix and match tyres as long as they are the same size?

Yes, but i wouldnt advice it. I'd much rather having matching tyres on all 4 wheels (but im just anal like that) as i believe mix-matching can only be bad, especially in the wet.

Thanks,

Looking at the car it seems that it has mix & match all round.

Front, 2 Goodyears about 3000 miles apart in age.

Back, 1 Original random brand, 2 slighlty newer random brand (with screw in)

So the sensible thing to do would be to replace the back ones completly hopefully finding the same model as the front ones with a bit of luck.

Then with a bit of luck that will be the last of the tyre spending till I dump the car.

If you have 2 new tyres then put them side by side, either front or back and take into account whether your front or rear wheel drive, putting them on the front may give you more control, back better braking and in a RWD car you may want them on the back so that if you slam on theres less chance of the rear loosing grip and getting ahead of you

didnt realise you already have a mix, id replace both rears having different on each side of the car isnt a good idea at all

if you have a full size spare you could do what i did and replace one and put your good spare on leaving a part worn for the spare, im guessing from the sound of things you dont

Sounds like the best idea to me. I wouldn't worry too much about matching them to the fronts though tbh.
