I've got a Vauxhall Astra SXI and last weekend one of my tyres went. I remember when I had my last car I was recommended on getting tyres (can't remeber the name) that were manufactured by Michelin I think but were cheaper, anyone have any idea on these?

Failing that has anyone got any advice on what tyres to get, I'm looking at the best for quality/value. (They don't need to be amazing!)

Also when you get a tyre changed at a garage, do they normally put your alloyed wheel that had the burst tyre back on the car & put the non alloyed car back in the boot?

Cheers

I know kwick fit do a cheap Michelin tyre, dunno the name, tbh I'm amased how much tyres are for cars with alloys, thank god my Corsa takes the el-cheapo tyres I can afford!

As far as I am aware, it is best not to go too cheap - there was a program (Top Gear I think) where they did braking distance tests with different tyres; the super-cheap foreign tyres performed significantly worse. That could be the difference between life and death.

sorry to hijack this thread, im also after some tyres, saves me making a new thread!

i need them for my fronts on my Astra mk3, the size on them now are 175/65/14, they have to be decent in wet and dry and be hard wearing, as i drive quite a lot of miles on motorways and normal roads, anyone have any recommendations? ive been looking at the hydragrips, but dont think they come in this size.

i wonder if i should go up a size to 185s? not sure if my wheels are big enough!

thanks!

Just found out what tyres I already have on my Astra - Continental Sport Contacts (205/50 R16 87 V)

On Blackcircles.com they are £100 fully fitted.

I'll have to ring around some place tomorrow to compare.
