Tyre recommendations?

On the 140mile long ride home yesterday on the street triple r I just bought I got a rear puncture. Luckily my brother had a portable tyre pump in his car and after plugging the puncture with a screw from his dashboard managed to nurse it home.

The pirelli diablo corsa tyres on it are 4500 miles old so was thinking of replacing the back and front as well. I'm going to be doing a lot of miles including commuting (around 15k/year) in all weather except snow.

I'm planning to ride it (carefully!) to a tyre shop tomorrow hopefully.

Anyone have any recommendations on what tyres to go for?

Michelin Pilot road 3/4. According to every single review/owners impression I've read, they're the only choice for commuting/all weather riding/longevity.

If you can stretch to a set of Pilot Road 4's, they're meant to be longer lasting than the 3's and a bit better overall.

17 page thread here with user impressions http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&f=74&t=1193148&mid=47205&i=0&nmt=Michelin+Pilot+Road+3+Update%2E%2E%2E&mid=47205

I have pilot road 4s and they are the best tyres I have ever had. Got a few mates running pilot road 3s and they love them too.

Depending on how much of a rush you are in http://www.tyreleader.co.uk is usually significantly cheaper than anywhere else i have found. They ship from Germany but only take a couple of days and its free postage if you buy a pair.

What are they like for delivery on just one tyre? Hard to see to the website unless you go through the full checkout procedure.

I need a new rear for my varadero, got a Bridgestone BT45 on there at the moment and it's done 6000 miles with me and it wasn't new when I bought the bike, so probably another couple of thousand on top, which I'm happy with. It's now squared off to buggerery though :p Tyreleader have one at £75 + delivery, plus £15 fitting if I bring the wheel only, or + another £18 for a ride in-ride out.

I can get one locally to work (5 mins walk) for £124.20 ride in ride out, so may end up doing that if delivery is £10 or more.

I will jump on the Road Pilot 3 band wagon, Not tried the 4s yet but had 3 bikes all with the road pilot 3's and they just give so much confidence and last forever... kind of. I am getting about 12-14k per rear but there are reports of them going higher than this. My mileage on them is just a rough guess, I do about 18k a year (about 72 mile a day) and I got my last rear back in March/May, It is just starting to square off now so should probably replace it again.

I came in here to recommend the Pilot Roads as I had PR2's on my VFR & loved them & have read untold excellent reviews on the PR4's so intend putting them on my Shiver. I didn't expect to see so many recommendations for PR4's but I'm chuffed to bits there is.

So...
Where's the cheapest place to get PR4's ?

lol @ that

Pirelli angel on my zx10 4-5k miles so far,ill grab a pic of what meat is left, pretty decent amount left on it and I rag that bike

My Shiver came with Angel ST's & the bike has done just over 8k on them now, Untold tread left but they are as Square as a shoe box, I can't really comment apart from to say they still ride well even at this age/mileage.
I will be going for the PR4's as I said above though I reckon.

I had some continental tyres I forget which brand but they were pretty poor as in they started to split where they were joined in the mold,at the seams

wont touch any of those again

I still have the same pr2 rear i fitted when i bought my tuono . It came with dunlops which i hated so put pr2's on . Front i changed last year for pr3 as it had a chunk out the side but plenty of tread . Rear still has plenty and not square . thats hmm 5+ years lol . Think i need to ride more :P

I'll add to the PR4 recommendation list. Went to the Alps back in July, 5 out of 6 of us ran PR4's. The guy leading us was on a Triumph Tiger and was riding like it was dry. He even stated that they were better in the wet than in the dry and felt more confident when it rained(!!).

I was still scrubbing mine in and didn't want to drop it so was riding much more conservative, but they gave no cause for concern, absolutely brilliant and sure footed. Will definitely stick a set on my Street Triple when the corsas have worn out.

I use PR3's and so far they've been amazing, a few friends are running on PR4's and they seem to be just as good but I prefer the tread pattern of the 3's over 4's.
