Tyre sizes for 7x17 rim

What would be the best size for a 7" wide rim

I'm thinking a 225/45/17 will be ok but would be interested to hear what you guys think

Ordered new wheels for the taxi but their only 7" width

I've got 215/45/17 on a 7.5", so they should be fine on 7".

I changed from 215/50/17 to 225/45/17 on my vectra a wee while ago.

Massive difference in price and more availability.

Fiesta ST standard wheels are 17x7 and they use 205/40/17.

I have 17x8" and use 225/35/17 and they look about right. I think 225 on a 7" wheel would make it look all chubby?

I have 225 on a 8 j rim and looks spot on. My other car is 7j and has 215

stock size is 195/65/15 but its currently running an almost identical diameter 205/55/16

moving up to 17's 225/45 is the perfect size to keep rolling radius the same as stock size (the 205/55/16 is 0.3% different from standard so within tolerance, really wouldn't want to go anymore thatn 1.5-2% difference in RR which limits me to either 225 or 215 45 17s (the 215/45 is 1.26% out compared to stock.


my only worry is that a 225 is going to be too wide for a 7" rim and I would be better staying with the 215/45

225 is too wide for a 7" wheel. It's about as big as you would go on a 7.5" rim IMO. I run 225/45/16 on a 16x7.5. 215 max I'd say.

Going up to see my tyre fitter on Monday to trial fit a few sizes see how clearance is and how the tyre sits on the rim thinking about 215/45 stm
