Hi There :D

I need 2 new front tyres to replace my standard 172 alloys 195/45/16 V. However, I am planning on buying some turini wheels (ala 172 cup), but the written size for them is 205/45/16.
Is it possible for me to put 205/45/16 on my standard 172 wheels, and then swap them over once I buy my turinis? Cheers.

about and inch bigger the new tyres so your speedo would be about 0.9 mph out, provided your rims can take that width tyre?

Im not sure if they can. I guess 1mph out isnt so bad. It will make me subconciously more aware of my speed!

Errr I certainly would NOT advise mixing tyre sizes on the same car!!!!

What are you jabbering about? There's nothing wrong with having wider rubber at one end than the other.

How wide are your rims and the cup rims?

cant find the wheel dimensions for my standards but the cups are 16"x7".

Of course not, which is why the profile of the tyre differs to compensate for this.

In this case, the profile remains at 45 despite the increase in width..

Correct - but it has 35 profile rear tyres and 45 profile front tyres as a result of this.

There's nothing wrong with running 195/45/15 fronts and 205/45/16 rears either.

But the front tyre will be smaller than the rear tyres surely? The sidewall height will differ..

And?

This is only an issue if you run a 4WD car with a solid centre diff.

In a FWD car, the rear wheels are free-rolling so it doesn't matter if they are of a different diameter than the fronts.

In a RWD car, the front wheels are free-rolling so it doesn't matter blahblahblah.

Surely it will look daft with one tyre bigger than the other, and depending on the size difference, give your car an appearance similar to that of a Xantia with broken rear height corrector stuck in high position :p

Correct. I used to run stupid offset wheels on the front of my er, Rover 213 :p The front and back were totally different profiles etc.
