I currently have a 307 2.0 XSI am i correct in saying that the current tyre size 205/50/R17 is a very similar size to 225/45/R17 ?

Could I in theory fit the later size to my wheel with pretty much no noticeable difference to rolling radius or handling?

The reason I ask is the later size can be as much as around £100 cheaper a set!

For example

PRIMACY HP 225/45 R17 91W Rim-protection NEW 105.40
PRIMACY HP 205/50 R17 89W Rim-protection NEW 128.90

Ok only £22.60 a tyre bad example but you get the idea.

As long as they are the same on both axels (front left and right same etc) then it should be ok.

Why skimp to save a couple of quid though? Saying that, if they are £100 cheaper a set you can afford to get a full set ;)

Probably not, if its a lower profile you will feel the bumps a bit more and there will be a tad more road noise.

£128 for a PRIMACY tyre, sounds like some kind of naff chinese manufacturer to me.

Camskill sell Falken FK452's in 205/50 for £62 each you know..

Yeah i seen the Camskills offer.. I will more than likely go for that one.

The Primacy tyres are Michelin's.

But will changeing the size effect handling?

Yes, it will adjust the offset slightly. You probably wont notice though.

The offset is important to characteristics under braking among other things. It's the reason the old Minis wiggle under heavy braking. And why boy racers with their £199 alloy wheels don't know what they're doing, alloys should have the correct offset or be supplied by the manafacturer.

How wide are your current wheels as wider tyres might not fir properly so you'll get increase side wall flex and even the possibilty of them coming off the rims. If the rims are less than 7.5" wide I wouldn't.
