Hey, just need a bit of advice really.

I had the drivers front tyre changed on my ST220 the other week as it had worn bald on the inside edge due to incorrect balancing / alignment (?).

This means I now have a brand new tyre on the driver’s side and a tyre that’s just over half worn on the passenger side. I know you should do both at the same time but as the other tyre still had a load of tread I thought it would be ok.

At the same time I had a four wheel alignment just to make sure all the other wheels were ok.

The problem is that before I had the above work the car would drive in a straight line and now it's veering off to the right. Much more so under acceleration but also the steering wheel doesn't seem line up any more when the car travels in a straight line.

Now I've left it a week thinking the tyre might just need a few miles to scrub in (plus it's been a busy week), but nothing has changed and I want to go back and ask them to fix it.

The thing is I'm wondering if it’s because I've got 2 tyres with different tread levels that is causing the car to wander to the right, or is it because they have messed the alignment up.

They also seem to have stuck a heap of weights on the alloy, seems a bit excessive: (excuse the dirt)

After paying £60 for the alignment I'm a bit annoyed (to say the least) but before I go back moaning, will the fact one tyre has more tread than the other cause a car to wander under acceleration?

Thanks, and yes I know I was being tight by only getting the one tyre done. :o

I had the same kind of thing on mine when I had to use the spare (full size) with 8mm and the other with 4mm on the front of mine, it had some pretty wacky torque steer going on. It went when the tyre was repaired and refitted.

Of course YMMV and it's deffo worth getting them to check it out and re-do the alignment if that is the problem.

When you say repaired and refitted, do you mean you still kept the spare on with 4mm tread or did they put a new tyre on?

I'll take it and see what they say, I don't think the tread difference should cause this much pull on the steering.

Cheers

Edit: Took it back and they found that the rear end was out of alignment. All sorted now at no extra charge and the car has never felt so good.
