I need to get front tyres for my 1999 ford focus. I'm looking for a decent tyre, but i don't want to pay a lot really. Anyone know how much a tyre would cost for roughly for a focus? Also, is kwik fit a good place to get them, or are they overpriced as there such a big name?

don't go to kwickfit. They will charge you good tyre money for rubbish tyres. Local indy will be better, cheaper and probably less rude!

What size? 15" alloys?

I paid about £70 each for a pair of top of the range (Conti Premium Contact 2) tyres for mine. Mainly because I'm a mug who should do more research before he buys tyres. You should be able to find decent tyres for around the 50 quid mark I guess, probably less.

yep, 15" alloys. Did they cost you £70 from kwik fit?

I went to National Tyres once:o:o

Never again, they wanted about £60 per tyre, but I got the exact same tyres at a small independant shop for £32 each:D

Britannia tyres are usually good if you have one near you.

They once fitted and balanced a set for me for the same price as I could buy them off Mytyres.

I know I'll probably get grief for this, but Kwik Fit aren't ALWAYS bad.

There is the odd smaller one with decent people working there, who'll do you a good price and fit the tyres well. An example of this is the current set of Eagle F1 Asymmetrics I have, they spent time finding a source for the tyres (at the time they were in short supply), got them in, fitted & balanced the set for £15 cheaper than mytyres will sell you 4 of them. The cheapest independent I found in the area wanted £110 more AFTER I'd haggled him down.

Same Mickey - I had a full set of F1's after they price matched.

Shame their wheel balancing skills were beyond poor.
Mine have been great, no wobbles or shaking at all (upto 100ish, I haven't been faster). They also fixed the balancing on a previous tyre I had repaired at the independent round the corner after they'd failed twice. Maybe it just depends which machine they have? It does look pretty idiot proof with the one they use ;)

When I went in to get a quote for my car they wern't willing to sell me a none stock tyre size for my car, plus it took them long enough to find the car, even asked if it was ever sold in the UK.

Bit ironic I thought when my car was built only a few miles away. Would let them off more if they were say like my age, but they looked about mid 30's to me, surely would have heard of Triumph if you were that age... Not sure why they needed to know my car anyways, I knew what tyre size I wanted and what ratings it needs to be. Which I had already told them.

I think it depends on the branch/area, although I went through an internet site I got a premium tyre for £60 (when all other local stockists were another £10-20 on top of that) plus I got a free tyre change on my spare that I was expecting to pay 5-10 quid for.

The guy on here with the blue VX220 made a thread praising Kwik-Fit the other month so I think it's all a bit hit and miss.
