Been having a read of some of the previous threads, however most of them dont really relate to my situation, I only do around 7000 miles a year so therefore dont need a tyre thats going to last a millenium. One of my requirements is that they must be good in the wet, as the previous owner has obviously just put some cheapo fullrun's on to get the car through it's MOT, and to say the least, they're awful!

So does anyone have any recommendations on tyres in 265/35/18 priced upto £200, as currently my choice looks pretty limited?

Thanks. :)

Same size as my rears.

The selection of performance tyres for this size is VERY limited. I was finding it hard to find much other than Contisport contacts @ ridiculous money.

I went for Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 in the end at £137 from Mytyres, and they are excellent BUT getting harder and harder to find in this size as they have been replaced by the new Goodyear Eagle Asymetric. I was going to get those but have yet to see an independant test to verify their performance. I'd have thought its an improvement, though.

Whats the car.... BMW 5 Series, Merc of some description or a Porsche 911? Pretty much all that uses this size, hence the poor choice.

It's a 530i, and before you dig up an old post of mine ages ago when I said I'd never drive a BMW, it's not a bad car. ;):p

I ordered some Bridgestone Potenza RE050A from e-tyres, but they decided to list tyres they cant actually supply, so are trying to get me to have some SP9000's, however I've read these would probably last me about 3 years use, and If I dont like them, I dont want to be stuck with a rubbish tyres!

It's far from a bad car but you have now doomed yourself to me hassling you for pictures and more details ;)

Go for some Eagle F1's, they really suit the 5 well. Happy with them on mine. Sounds like you've got the best possible wheels on there as well ;)

Where would I source some of those from? I thought they were discontinued?!

I've found these http://www.camskill.co.uk/products.php?plid=m4b0s66p9087

However what's the chance of them actually stocking them?! Guess I'll find out in the morning!

Im not sure if it's a champagne edition or not as it doesnt have colour coded door handles and non-electric seats. However apart from that it's identical!

You can easily get Eagle F1 Asymetrics, but last time I checked (and ordered) mytyres.net had F1 GS-D3 in stock.

Camskill dont have any despite advertising them.

If you've not got electric memory seats it's not a Champagne edition. Confused what you mean about colour coded doorhandles though as every 5 Series from the 520i non SE to the M5 has colour coded door handles. Do you mean the rubbing strips on the doors? If so, every Sport and M5 has black plastic ones.

Champagne II editions have, over a standard 530i Sport..

Automatic Gearbox
Champagne leather interior
Piano black wood trim
Electric heated memory seats
Comms Pack inc Satnav/TV
Style 37 18" wheels

As standard. Think they had Xenons as well. It was the runout model for the end of E39 production. 95% of them are on 03 plates but there are a handful on 52 plates.

Your car sounds like a well specified black 530i Sport Auto with Sand Beige leather.

The door handles with the switchgear for the electric windows etc are black plastic, where'as I thought the champagne edition cars had leather ones colour coded with the seats?

I also thought champagne editions came with that yucky light coloured wood? Luckily mine has the silver trim. I'll try and get you some pictures to lust over when I get my camera back from work. :p

Fox, you need to get out more ;) O .. wait .. where are you tomorrow evening??

Some of them have yucky light wood some have Piano black trim, depends if the original had taste or not :p

Had no idea that the Champagne Editions had leather trimmed door handles. I've just checked and they are certainly the same colour as the seats - as is the centre console.

Damn. Now I want one of those even more :p

Champagne II Edition.

Could be an Individual car? Do you have ///M door sills or BMW Individual ones? I'm not at home so can't check my E39 brochure and cant remember offhand whether the cream seats were a regular option or not.

What year/plate is the car?
