Have just checked my tyres having recently found my breaking to be underperforming a bit & more than one seems close to or past the correct level or tread. Currently I have some Firestone F-590's on there (fiesta - 165/70 r13) which do the job but are somewhat basic. Can anyone recommend some tyres to get that may do a bit better without breaking the bank.

I assume it is best when replacing a tyre to get the same tyre on the other side? Means I may be looking at getting all 4 done.

You haven't got a great choice of tyres in that size. I think as long as you stick to the likes of Goodyear, Dunlop, Michelin or Bridgestone you should be fine. Get the best ones you can afford. Avoid Pirelli like the plague. I've no idea why they are known as a premium brand, all the Pirellis I've ever had were absolute crap.

Aye, they're good in the dry but suck in the wet. I don't think they do them in that size anyway, they're aimed at the larger hatch/saloon market.

Not gonna change the wheels as I think it wont be *too* long before I get a new car & for a fiesta not sure I can be bothered with alloys :) Nice idea though.

Thinking about the Goodyear GT3's but another question, what does the 79t or 83t bit mean? My current tyres are 79t but I have no idea what that actually means.

I have to disagree, I have Pirelli P Zero Neros and they are fantastic (wet and dry), they wear quite quickly but they hold the road very well.

I have used P6000s and thought that they were quite poor in the wet. You get what you pay for though :)

anyone?

The letter T denotes the maximum speed rating. I think they are as follows:

Q = 99mph
R = 106mph
S = 112mph
T = 118mph
H = 130mph
V = 149mph

The number is the load index, i.e. the maximum load capacity of the tyre at maximum rated speed. Higer number = better.

You can find it all here... http://www.mytyres.co.uk/Identifying.htm
