Tyriel Wood: THROUGH THE LENSES - PSVR2 vs Quest 2 vs QUEST PRO

It’s pretty striking good the Quest pro looks compared to every other headset on the market when it comes to through the lenses pics!

There are a few people saying the Pro's SDE looks bad. In practice it's not an issue. I think it's partly a consequence of how clear the lenses are as the Quest 2's image is blurry by comparison.

I did notice the SDE when I first got the Pro and was a bit disappointed, but I stopped noticing it as soon as I started playing games, and I was gobsmacked by how clear and sharp it was for PCVR.

Hey @Ravenger, what's your commission :p With the forthcoming price cut I'm almost getting tempted - if only it facilitated direct display port or HDMI connection. But with spring around the corner and less time on the sim rig it looks like I'll be evaluating my options again come Autumn.

I just went completely fanboy on the headset as I am legitimately amazed at the picture quality and the controllers. I don't earn commission, I wish I did! I think it's also because it annoys me to see people misrepresenting the headset because they either can't afford it, hate Meta, misunderstand the specs, or claim 'its a business headset and not for games', and above all haven't even tried one.

As for compression, in practice compression isn't a real issue. You'll always get some compression with streamed wireless VR due to the bandwidth required. Over a USB link cable with the bitrate increased you get display port levels of clarity. In fact the Pro shows way less visible compression than the Quest 2 when using the same settings for some reason.

That said you need a decent GPU to get the best out of it. I wouldn't recommend it as a Quest 2 upgrade for standalone use, even though it is a big upgrade and the standalone MR is cool, as it really is PCVR where it currently shines.

Also the open front form factor is a revelation. It's great to be able to play games without anything on my face. For those games where I want to be fully immersed I use the full light blocker which doesn't press hard against my face. With Pro it feels like the lenses are hovering in front of your eyes. Massively better than having your whole face clamped.

Really?........ We didn't notice.

The quest pro really is great, it has turned me into a full on sim racer now to the point I bought a gt omega prime and have just ordered a Moza r9.
The spec’s definitely don’t tell the full story as the picture is far sharper then the resolution would suggest.

It's some weird magic that Meta have done here.

They completely failed to market it as a high end prosumer headset and instead promoted it for enterprise use.

The resolution isn't quite high enough for the use case they were pushing and it just doesn't have the productivity apps, and those it does have aren't amazing. Some users have successfully used it for virtual monitors and it does seem to be usable for that, just.

The big factor though is Meta don't really push PCVR use any more (though of course they do support it) and that's where the headset really shines. Native apps can be amazing on the headset when they use the special features, but only a few do.
