My 17" Sharp LL172G-B is getting a little long in the tooth and i'm looking at buying a new widescreen 1080p monitor. There seem to be lots of reccommendations for the Dell U2311, but I've also heard negatives regarding responsiveness and gaming. I don't notice any ghosting, lag, or off-colours with my current monitor and i think its using a TN panel with a 18ms response time (it is about 5-6 years old).

My main uses will be gaming and 3D modelling (especially once I've bought a new GPU/machine), with a large amount of browsing and a little bit of photoshop work. The Dell (~£260) is pretty much at the top of my budget, so cheaper alternatives would be considered, but if the Dell is worth the extra I'm happing going for that. Displayport is a plus, as would be a 24" screen but if sacrificing that 1" gets me a better monitor that'll last me longer so be it.

So is the Dell worth the extra, or are there alternatives that suit my needs better?

I heard I loose some buying rights by going through that method, is that true, and what exactly do I loose the right to?

So is the monitor suitable for gaming?

You lose any rights under DSR (Distance Selling Regulations) basically, which means you can't just return it because you changed your mind.

Personally, I think it's a great monitor for gaming, and at the price it is now, it's a steal!

DSR is essential when buying a monitor it's the only way to get a monitor with no dead pixels
