Hi all,

I'm looking at eventually upgrading to an Eyefinity 3 monitor setup (a juvenile dream I never thought I'd have!) and I've spent hours on looking for the right set for me. I keep on coming back to the Dell U2311H for a multitude of reasons.

There are a bunch of them in OCUK clearance section. I haven't bought anything here for a couple of years and am unsure as to why they might be in there - can anyone tell me why they are £150 clearance? I'd love to pick a couple up at that price now but depends whats wrong with them.

Thanks

Clearance usually means they have been returned by orginal purchasers under DSR but can't be sold as new - since they have already been opened and used. To be in this section, they will be fully functional, but may not come with all the cables and packaging you would expect with a new item.

Since it's a dell monitor- then so long as you get the original box (with the monitor-specific "Works order number" on it) - then you should still be able to use the Dell warranty and premium panel guarantee, however it may not be the full 3 years length.

That said, the most likely reason someone would return a monitor under DSR is that there are dead pixels. The Dell Premium panel guarantee will swap out the monitor for a replacement if you find a single Bright pixel or sub-pixel, but there does seem to be a tolerance level for dead pixels - so they may not replace the monitor if there is only a small number of dead pixels. Hence if a customer doesn't want any dead pixels at all then they have the right to return the monitor to OCUK under DSR and pay for the postage back. Therefore, the chance of getting a monitor with a small number of dead pixels is a fair bit higher if you buy from the clearance section instead of going for a new one.

Tint or backlight bleed within manufacturer tolerances but not acceptable to the end user. I would avoid if I were you.

That's whats always bothered me about buying monitors online, you can't send them back with dead pixels as it's not covered by the warranty. The Dell one is all well and good, but doesn't cover black pixels, so still useless... DSR is going to have to come through for me really. I bought 4 LG monitors last year and three of them had dead/bright pixels!

Little tip - By the time Dell examine your returned display you'll be using your replacement. In theory (although it would be dishonest and CANNOT be condoned) you could easily send back a fully working fault free display if you wanted. The courier does not inspect the goods on collection.

So therefore, a black pixel is no big deal

Thanks all, much appreciated. Email from OCUK this morning telling me they can't tell me why they're B-grade. Will probably wait for some offers or something and buy them new :)

Seems strange to me. I'd have thought that honesty and transparency along with appropriate pricing would make the B-grade stock more appealing. As it is it just scares me.

They probably really don't know.

If it's been returned under DSR no reason has to be given.

OcUK probably just test to make sure it works but won't have the time to go over every item with a fine tooth comb.
