Anyone know if this is now a duff monitor or something I can do?

My out of warranty u2711 has green sparkles on certain areas of graphics
It's only on one half of the panel
Sometimes turning it off and on removes it temporarily

Duff or salvageable?

What type of connection/cable are you using? If it's DVI it's probably a dual link one for that res, and could be one side/channel connection is iffy on the cable or port.

Try a display port connection if you aren't already. If you already are, then the next step would probably be to confirm whether it's the monitor or card. Do you have anything else you can use the monitor on, or try it on a friends pc and see if it occurs on that too?

If it turns out to be a monitor fault unfortunately sounds like a potential controller board issue - may be salvageable but may be a large chunk of the cost of a new one anyway. :(

Happens with no cables guys
And monitor is served by vga from server, dvi from desktop and display port from laptop.. All same problem

Ok, so definitely a monitor fault then. :(

You could try a DIY repair if you can get hold of the relevant parts. Depends on how integrated the mainboard is though - probably quite a chunk of cash to get a new one. You may be really lucky and spot a bad capacitor on the board, although issue seems a little too odd for that.

You could try contacting Dell and see if they will give you a quote for repair, and then see if it's cost effective.

You could try the sale of goods act 1979?

Quote

The Sale of Goods Act 1979 doesn't say exactly how long goods should last. The general rule is that goods should last for a reasonable time and in reasonable condition. For example, a new car should last for several years in a reasonable condition but you may need to replace some of its parts over time.

If goods don't last as long as they should, they probably weren't of satisfactory quality when you bought them. For example, if the sole on a shoe comes away after a few weeks of normal wear, this suggests that it was never of satisfactory quality.

You may need an expert's opinion on how long a particular item can normally be expected to last.

I think it is 6 years for TV`s, monitors etc. But you will need to check. ;)
