Hi guys, i got my new dell xps 1530 laptop the other day with vista and am really enjoying it. However, I hate and detest UAC (user account control with a passion)
I run a DG 834N router (netgear) with my main pc connected via wires and my laptop via wireless N.
With UAC ON
============
I can see my home pc in Vista network (start menu -> network)
Can browse mapped drive shares via my pc
Via XP PC can see Laptop and browse it fine
With UAC Off
===========
I can not see my home pc nor browse it in Vista network (start menu -> network)
Can browse mapped drive shares via my pc
Via XP PC when I try to browse Laptop I get asked for a user and password (entering my vista user account details lets me in)
My question is, is why is UAC off making network usage so much harder?
And how can I at least see my home pc in network connections and preferably how can I browse my laptop via my pc without having to enter user and password.
Turning UAC ON/OFf is the only changes made to make the above changes
File and print sharing is on
Network discovery is on
Fiewall allows file and print sharing
Password protected sharing is Off
Please help, I can't stand UAC
