So Uber have taken upon itself to start charging anyone within the M25 15p per mile extra from 16th January. :/

How the Clean Air Plan works

From Wednesday 16 January, a Clean Air Fee of 15p per mile will be included on every trip taken through the app in London. This will only apply to miles travelled on a trip, and will not include miles travelled to your pick up location. The 15p per mile will not be affected by dynamic pricing.

How payments work

You’ll always be able to see how much you’ve contributed to the Clean Air Plan from each trip in your receipt, and none of this fee will come from your driver’s fare. The money will go towards helping drivers to upgrade and maintain an electric vehicle as well as other clean air initiatives. Tap below to read more about the Clean Air Plan.

Essentially what they are doing is highlighting the cost of incoming clean air policies in London, by being honest that its causing price rises.

Please note this is not a suggestion that the clean air policies are wrong. In reality, they don't go far enough because they exclude buses and black cabs...

If it's too much stop using them. Looks like a way of improving the fleet - although the company is clearly going to benefit itself by having incentives for drivers and a more modern, reliable fleet.
